From the Archives - 26th September 2019

“The title of this weekly column has changed to: “From the Archives.” The Museum will be featuring fun artifacts, paper archives, and photographs from the collection. This week is a photo of the Martin Peterson homestead.

Martin arrived in the valley in 1898 with his wife and five children. He purchased a quarter section of land from the railroad two and one half miles from Bonners Ferry. He cleared the land, shipped cord wood to town on the rail, and built a home and barn. Martin fenced his entire property and raised cattle and horses. The Great Northern Railway over Drainage District #1 and the South Bench can be seen in the background. This is now the site of the Mirror Lake Golf Course.

This photograph was chosen this week to promote the Moravia Cemetery Tour. The tour Saturday September 28th at 1:00pm will have historical information about the people of the Moravia Community.
