From the Bonners Ferry Herald – May, 1975 – 50 Years Ago:

“Ed Rice sailed to a new high school record – one inch higher than the state record, and the 440 bunch set new records as the overwhelming Badgers won last Saturday’s regional track meet.”

Photo caption” “Idaho all-time, all-school high jump champion now is Ed Rice of Bonners Ferry after this leap of 6′ 9 1/4” at the State Track Meet in Idaho Falls last weekend. Rice was “a real horse” in the Bonners Ferry effort which netted the team the A-2 State Championship with this first place finish and places in three running events. (Herald photo)”

Article in the newspaper: “It’s Roses for Rice – Ed Rice, Idaho high jump champion of all time after his 6′ 9 1/4″ effort last weekend, has been invited this week to the Rose Festival Invitational upcoming at Portland, Ore. Only the most outstanding of the Pacific Northwest’s athletes are invited from high schools and colleges in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. Some travel expenses for the athlete have been promised by the festival group.”
