Idaho Day 2026 – Annual Temporary Exhibition

Come in now to experience this!

On March 2, 3, and 4 the Museum hosted the public school fourth graders for their annual Idaho Day activity. This year America250 was the theme. The Pathfinder’s Monument located in the Library park turns 100 years old in July, 2026, so this monument was incorporated in the students’ field trip. Working as a group, the students received a box of sand upon which they created land forms, trees, water sources, and vegetation. They surveyed their “homestead” using compasses and Gunther’s chains. Building a grid for their land, they mapped it; those maps are on display in the Portrait Hall. This display will remain throughout the summer.

This Exhibition includes an America250 timeline of the past 250+ years of Boundary County History

We would like to thank Don Schied for his generous donation of vintage survey equipment which is on display in Portrait Hall, and will remain throughout the summer. Many of these tools were made part of the activity booklets in the form of word puzzles which were part of the children’s lesson.

Hearty thanks also go to all the volunteers who helped with Idaho Day, by table leading, cleaning up after each group, and accompanying the students on a walk to the Pathfinder’s Monument to see the real thing.

What fun times we had!
