“If you live in America and are not a Native American, you came from somewhere else. Early non-natives came to Idaho from many places and cultures seeking a better life. Sometimes their experiences were documented in songs and poems, leaving a unique view of their new life from the bottom looking up. In this presentation we will perform some of these songs and poems.” ~ Gary

In 2006 Gary started the Idaho Songs Project, with the primary mission finding, documenting, interpreting and preserving songs written before the radio era (1923) about early Idaho’s people, places and events. He has documented over two hundred forgotten early Idaho songs and has published over a dozen topically arranged interpretive booklets with audio CDs based on these songs.
