Annual Meeting Notes

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025 the Annual Meeting of the Historical Society was held at the Museum.

All reports were approved for the 2024 year.

Trustees Election: Three Trustees agreed to remain.

Refreshments were served.


The Museum’s mission is achieved with the aid of memberships, the community, and the support of the County. Appreciation to all who have renewed their 2025 memberships. If you wish to renew, click HERE to print the membership form.

Looking Ahead to 2025 –

We look forward to greeting new and returning visitors and tour groups; providing historical and educational programs; having all around good fun at the Museum. Hours: Thurs.- Sat. 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The year end Society Activities report as presented at the Annual Membership Meeting

Following is a summary of what has kept the Trustees, Staff, and Volunteers busy in 2024:

BCHS Membership:

* Membership in 2024 – 187 members; Membership for 2025 (to date) – 64 members

* Membership Dues collected in 2024 – $6,045.00

Affiliation/Donation:

* International Selkirk Loop

* Idaho Association of Museums

Funding:

* Support from Boundary County Commissioners and Glenda Poston, County Clerk

* Fundraising Dinner/Auction; 2024 Historical Calendar; Small Towns, Big Dreams (867 books have moved out of the building); Gift Shop

* Financial donations: individual families; memorials; Schwab Charitable Foundation; Fidelity Charitable Fund Special Events:

* Fiber Fest – Demonstrations of spinning, weaving, knitting, etc.; 68 attendees

* Idaho Day – “Mapping Boundary County”- map lesson, art activity and “Idaho” cookie

* Story of Edward L. Bonner – slide show and map lesson for fourth grade students

* School Tours – Fourth grades and Private Schools – Faces of History (reproduced edition); scavenger hunt

* “History of Cattle in Boundary County” – slide program by Sue Kemmis

* Masonic Wives’ Museum tour

* “Boundary to Bear Lake & Owyhee to Freemont” – folk music presented by Gary Eller; jam with local musicians

* Chamber of Commerce honoring 50-year businesses in Boundary County – Sue Kemmis emcee

* Adventures Summer Reading Program – grant awarded to Boundary County Library with Museum inclusion

* Historic Cemetery Tour- “Cemetery on the Hill” part 2 – 52 attendees; admission donated to the cemetery association; porta potty provided by KG&T

* A Night for the Museum – “Autumn Harvest”- theme dinner catered by The Rusty Moose; games and activities; live auction – Jeff Sater, auctioneer

* Celebration of Life in memory of Howard Kent, Jr.

* Restorium Residents’ Tour

Outreach With Other Museums & Agencies:

* Bonner County Museum – knit hat loaned for Fiber Fest; Gamblin Chevrolet bottle opener * ISH Society – 1873 Territory of Idaho Map

* Bonners Ferry Ranger District – maps & pencils for Idaho Day

* Boundary County Restorium – 2 BFHS Yearbooks

* Sent to ISHS Boise, ID – photos & post cards

* Sent to Libby Museum – photos for republication of Libby Dam book

* Sent to Museums in Leadville, CO and Delph, IN – photos and post cards

* Replacement of roof and drains – Bogie & Sons Roofing & Siding; Summit Plumbing (donation)

* Brick sealant applied to rear wall – ProMaster Painting

* Replacement furnace and two thermostats ordered for installation – Allweather Heating & Air

Museum Purchases:

* Digital projector

* Hand held scanner

* Archival boxes for newspapers; totes for fiber items

* Used all-in-one computers (4) from Boundary County Library

* Vacuum

* Gift shop items: T-shirts, mugs, hats, stickers

Museum Collection:

* Donors: 61; Accessions inventoried: 852

* Past Perfect Program (objects, photos, books, archival papers): 37,742 entries

Special Interest Donations to the Museum Collection:

* Additional Edgar Stephenson photos and negatives donated from estate of Harold Stephenson

* Resuscitator for newborns donated by Boundary Community Hospital

* Mary Hawkins’ piano donated by Marianne Duarte

* Boundary County History Book used by Twyla Stone to create the volume’s index donated by Fred Dahlberg

Museum Statistics:

* Volunteers: 33 Volunteer Hours: 2,368.5 hours

* Visitors to Museum: 2,549

Students- 507/Boundary County- 697/Idaho- 403/Out of State- 853/Out of Country- 89

* Free Saturdays – June through October, sponsored by “Friends of the Museum”

* Admission Fees: $3,293.00 Donations in Donation Box: $1,450.76
